Cruise Diva Goes Ashore in ALASKA
Sights to see & things to do
Valdez, Alaska
It was the disastrous accident of the oil tanker Exxon Valdez (which had just left the Valdez harbor) that brought this small southern terminal of the Trans-Alaska Pipeline to the world’s attention.
Diversions
Ships calling in Valdez dock at the commercial pier a couple miles from the center of town. Shuttles carry passengers to the information center in town.
Valdez is essentially a tiny village without much to see in town. The central attraction is the Valdez Museum & Historical Archive, which chronicles the area’s history from early exploration through the massive oil spill and clean up.
Tours offer a look at the Trans-Alaska Pipeline and pass through Keystone Canyon to the Worthington Glacier Recreation Site. Helicopter flightseeing excursions offer the opportunity to see Columbia Glacier, Prince William Sound, and land on Shoup Glacier.
Rafting through the Keystone Canyon is a soft adventure with stunning scenery. Other adventures include wilderness sailing and kayak safaris.
Cool Cruising-- Spring! It's in the air and cruisers' fancies turn north. North to Alaska, with thoughts of majestic scenery, frontiers to explore, and what to pack.
