Princess Cruises Launches Call for Passenger Photos to be Permanently
Showcased Aboard New Royal Princess
SANTA CLARITA, CA, Jan 31: Princess Cruises is looking for 1,000 passenger-submitted cruise vacation photos to permanently showcase aboard its new Royal Princess when the ship debuts in spring 2013. The line has launched a “1,000 Memories at Sea” contest inviting passengers to submit their best cruise vacation shots, which will be displayed on the walls of hallways between staterooms and in other locations around the ship. In addition, one lucky photographer will win a cruise for two, including airfare, on Royal Princess.
Whether they captured the perfect Caribbean sunset, caught Alaska wildlife in action, found a breathtaking rainbow over Hawaii, or snapped a meaningful moment onboard, passengers can submit their favorite cruise photos on Facebook, at princess.com/royalprincesscontest or by mail. The “1,000 Memories at Sea” contest will be judged by a panel which is looking for creativity, originality, style, and images that capture the spirit of what it means to “escape completely.” Contest judges include Rai Caluori, Princess’ executive vice president of fleet operations; Teresa Anderson, the line’s vice president of interior design, and Ian Johnson, director of photography and video for Princess.
“With the introduction of Royal Princess, we wanted to pay tribute to our passengers and their vacation memories made aboard our ships,” said Jan Swartz, executive vice president for Princess. “This contest will be a fun opportunity for 1,000 of our passengers to be permanently recognized aboard our new ship, so they should start sifting through their travel photos now, and submit a remarkable shot to be considered.”
The “1,000 Memories at Sea” contest runs through March 31, 2012 and is open to entrants 21 years of age or older, residing in the United States, Canada (excluding Quebec), the United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand. Full entry details for the contest can be found at princess.com/royalprincesscontest.

The families of the deceased and guests who were injured and required medical treatment on site will be covered under a separate proposal that will take into account their individual circumstances.

Costa also has pledged not to deduct from this sum any amount paid by any insurance policy stipulated by guests. In addition, the company will return all goods stored in cabin safes, where retrieval is possible.

American Cruise Lines Announces Queen of the Mississippi 2013 Schedule
GUILFORD, CT, Jan 25: Still six months away from the start of its inaugural 2012 season on the Mississippi River, American Cruise Lines, the leader in small ship cruising, has announced its 2013 schedule for Queen of the Mississippi. The brand-new 150-passenger authentic paddlewheeler is currently under construction and nearing completion in Salisbury, MD and will begin service this August from New Orleans. Following the 2012 season, the 2013 schedule for Queen of the Mississippi will feature sailings beginning on February 9th. The new schedule is now available for viewing here.
“We’re excited about the release of 2013 sailings aboard Queen of the Mississippi,” said Timothy Beebe, Vice President, American Cruise Lines. “We received a wonderful response to the 2012 inaugural season and look forward to further accommodating this demand with the 2013 schedule.”
Similar to the 2012 season, theme cruises will be featured throughout, including the Civil War and Mark Twain, with new additions such as musical and holiday-themed cruises. Details on these special cruises will be released later in the year. Entertainment will also be a key component, with various featured local and national entertainers spanning a range of music genres, including Jazz, Dixie Land and Blues. A resident onboard riverlorian (river historian) will also be aboard each cruise, while additional lecturers and experts also join guests along the cruise to educate, entertain and captivate them along the way.
The Queen of the Mississippi boasts 78 staterooms—much larger than those on any other Mississippi riverboat, with sliding glass doors to spacious private balconies, and all of the amenities today’s travelers expect, while maintaining the elegance and traditional Victorian luxury of classic late 1800s Mississippi riverboats. American Cruise Lines will operate the authentic paddlewheeler over the entire Mississippi River System, including the Ohio and Cumberland Rivers. The Queen of the Mississippi will also be able to travel at significantly higher speeds than all other Mississippi riverboats, minimizing night travel and making more itineraries possible with longer visits to the river towns. A number of unique riverboat journeys are planned that take passengers as far north as St. Paul, MN on the Mississippi River and as far east as Pittsburgh, PA on the Ohio River.
About American Cruise Lines: American Cruise Lines, the largest U.S. cruise company, operates the newest fleet of small ships in the industry and offers more than 35 unique itineraries along the inland waterways and rivers of the Pacific Northwest, Alaska, the Mississippi River System and East Coast of the United States, from New England to Florida. Cunard’s Queen Elizabeth to Make Maiden Call to Port of San Francisco
Jan 25:: On Feb 4, Cunard Line’s newest luxury ocean liner, Queen Elizabeth, will make her inaugural call to San Francisco, marking her only U.S. maiden call this year. Currently sailing her 107-day World Cruise, Queen Elizabeth will dock at Pier 35 along the city’s famed Embarcadero, and is scheduled to arrive between 5:30-6:00 am and depart at approximately 9:00 pm.
“We are very pleased to introduce our newest Cunarder to Bay Area residents who have historically extended a gracious welcome to our fleet of Queens,” said Peter Shanks, president of Cunard Line. “The city’s warm hospitality, iconic landmarks, world-class dining and culture are always a highlight for our well-travelled guests.”
Named by Her Majesty The Queen in Southampton, England in October 2010, Queen Elizabeth is the second largest Cunarder ever built, after flagship Queen Mary 2. Cunard’s longtime relationship with Great Britain’s Royal Family is reflected throughout the ship, including a specially-commissioned portrait of Her Majesty The Queen.
While this will be Queen Elizabeth’s inaugural visit to San Francisco, the city has held historical significance for Cunard ships since 1942, when the original Queen Elizabeth visited as part of her war duties, and where she also underwent a refit. Later, in 1978, Queen Elizabeth 2 made her maiden call to San Francisco, visiting a dozen times more in subsequent years. Five years ago to the day of Queen Elizabeth’s upcoming maiden call, flagship Queen Mary 2 was warmly received by hundreds who came out to welcome her during her 2007 inaugural visit; and Queen Victoria was also graciously greeted by the city during her 2009 maiden call. Cunard continues their enduring relationship with the city by the bay and is pleased to be the Preferred Cruise Partner of the San Francisco Symphony’s 2012 Black & White Ball this June.
The best locations to view the ship’s sailaway as she departs the harbour are:
• Golden Gate Overlook: At Golden Gate National Recreation Area
• The Marina Green: Between Fort Mason and the Presidio, adjacent to San Francisco Bay
• Fort Mason: Located in the northern Marina District, alongside San Francisco Bay
• Aquatic Park: At the historic Hyde Street Pier
• PIER 39: Two-blocks east of Fisherman’s Wharf at Beach Street and The Embarcadero. Convenient parking is available across the street in the PIER 39 Garage.
• Treasure Island: Connected to Yerba Buena Island, which has exits and entrances into and out of the San Francisco–Oakland Bay Bridge (I-80) in both directions. Travel between Yerba Buena and Treasure Islands and the rest of San Francisco is toll-free in both directions.
From San Francisco, Queen Elizabeth will continue her World Cruise, which includes stops in Hawaii, American Samoa, Fiji, New Zealand, Australia, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Malaysia, Thailand, India, United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Greece, Italy, Monaco and Portugal.
Queen Elizabeth captured the world stage with her launch in 2010, quickly establishing herself among the fleet. On board, guests savor the sense of occasion, dressing up for glamorous evenings at Royal Nights themed balls, and enjoy Cunard’s signature amenities such as Champagne Afternoon Tea in the Garden Lounge, extraordinary dining experiences in the line’s renowned Queens Grill and Princess Grill restaurants, and in The Verandah, a French restaurant that pays tribute to the legendary Verandah Grills aboard the original Queen Elizabeth and Queen Mary. Costa Cruises North America Statement: Clarification on Discounts & Promotional Offers
HOLLYWOOD, FL, Jan. 24: In reference to news reports on discounts and promotional offers, Costa Cruises asserts that the company has never offered any discount on future cruises to our guests who were on board Costa Concordia for the cruise of Jan. 13 and involved in the tragic accident. The information originally published by a newspaper and reported in various news outlets is unfounded, as confirmed by the English passenger who was quoted by the newspaper.
Costa Cruises reiterates that after the accident the company’s priority has always been to provide the maximum possible assistance and solace to the people involved. From the outset the company has been fully aware of and saddened by the suffering and hardship endured by guests and crewmembers, and has acted with this firmly in mind.
On a joint basis with rescue teams, the company worked to provide evacuated passengers and crewmembers with all the necessary assistance to ensure they were able to return home. Subsequently, Costa Cruises contacted guests by telephone after they had returned home to check on their physical and emotional wellbeing, and to confirm that they will receive a refund for the cruise and all material expenses related to it.
As previously announced, the company welcomes discussion with its guests and all consumer-protection associations to determine indemnity for the hardship endured, with the support of tourism-sector trade associations with which it has been in contact for days.
Driven by its sense of ethics and the values of fairness and responsibility which guide it, the company also has given all customers booked on future Costa cruises the opportunity, if they have hesitations about cruising, to cancel their cruise booking by Feb. 7, 2012. All travel agents who work with the company were informed of that days ago.
Costa Cruises would also like to clarify that starting on the day after the accident, all advertising initiatives planned were cancelled out of respect for those affected by this tragedy. The company was unable to stop only one postal promotion, which had already been sent to some customers at the end of December.

SeaDream Taps Into The Hippocrates Health Institute’s “Life Transformation Program”
Miami, FL, Jan 23: SeaDream Yacht Club introduces the first of its kind at sea, a “Raw Food” menu option. A once-radical form of vegetarianism called the “raw foods” or “living foods” movement is creeping into mainstream. Aboard the luxurious twin mega-yachts, SeaDream I and SeaDream II, gourmet raw food is now offered in addition to the regular menu.
“Raw” refers to a style of preparation in which all ingredients are raw, organic and vegan (no fish, meat, eggs or dairy), and nothing is heated above 118°F in order to retain all the healthy micro nutrients. SeaDream’s Norwegian owners, Linn and Atle Brynestad were excited by the health benefits they personally experienced while eating “raw”. After an extended stay at the Hippocrates Health Institute in West Palm Beach, Florida, the Brynestads asked the Executive Chef, Renate Waller to bring her talents to SeaDream’s galley. Renate, a “Raw Food Chef” worked with SeaDream’s Corporate Chef, Sudesh Kishore to create a special, optional menu of delicious, gourmet raw food dishes. “Switching to a high percentage of raw, living plant based foods, enables people to reclaim feeling great and being well” says Hippocrates Chef, Renate.
The Hippocrates Health Institute was created over five decades ago. Over the years, it has developed the Life Transformation Program into the definitive blueprint for transitioning to a healthier lifestyle. The Institute helps people radically change their health by teaching them how to trade nutrient-deficient, "dead" foods to a diet rich in antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, and plant-based proteins. The Hippocrates plan, replete with fresh sprout and vegetable juices, wheatgrass, colorful salads, nuts, seeds, and fruit, supplies the oxygen, enzymes, alkalinity, and bioelectrical charges vital to cellular and general health.
SeaDream’s reputation for providing a stellar culinary experience remains of utmost importance to the company. “The raw food menu is an added option. If you come aboard to enjoy filet mignon and double chocolate mousse, by all means it’s on the menu” said Kishore. He added “Nobody else at sea is offering this style of raw cuisine, and because we serve at most 112 guests, we can. One might assume raw food is boring or bland, but guests who chose to try it are in for a tasty surprise.”
SeaDream’s Chef shared several of the dishes being served from this optional, new raw food menu. Beverages such as Watercress Tang; a liquid mélange of watercress, Anjou pear, lime and pineapple; the Blood Apple Blaster; a blend of apple, ginger, red beet, lime juice and agave. Salad options include Asian style Cashew Curry Salad; crunchy and slightly spicy. An entrée such as Vegetable Lasagna uses pasta-like noodles made from spinach leaves and coconut meat, layered between a spicy cauliflower mash topped with a sun-dried tomato marinara. SeaDream’s Pastry Chef is on board with raw food desserts. There is a tempting Cashew Lemon Cheese Cake with a crust made from almonds and dates and the filling’s main ingredients are cashews, lemon juice, almond milk and coconut butter. For those who prefer sugar free, we make that available too. You really can have your cake and eat it too!
Founded in 2001, SeaDream Yacht Club is the yachting venture by Norwegian entrepreneur Atle Brynestad. The company operates SeaDream I and SeaDream II, twin, ultra-luxury mega yachts that operate 5 to 20-night sailings in the Caribbean, the Mediterranean, the Black Sea and the Amazon River. The yachts are not only ideal for discerning travelers seeking an unstructured and casual holiday experience but also for groups and full yacht charters for meetings, incentives and individual private family gatherings. Carnival Corporation Announces Comprehensive Audit & Review of Safety & Emergency Response Across All Its Cruise Lines
MIAMI, Jan 19: Following the tragic Costa Concordia accident, Carnival Corporation & plc, parent company of Costa Cruises and nine leading cruise lines around the world, today announced a comprehensive audit and review of all safety and emergency response procedures across all of the company’s cruise lines.
Carnival Corporation & plc and the cruise industry as a whole have maintained an excellent safety record over the years. “However, this tragedy has called into question our company’s safety and emergency response procedures and practices,” said Micky Arison, chairman and CEO of Carnival Corporation & plc. “While I have every confidence in the safety of our vessels and the professionalism of our crews, this review will evaluate all practices and procedures to make sure that this kind of accident doesn’t happen again.”
The review is being led by Captain James Hunn, a retired U.S. Navy Captain and currently the company’s senior vice president of Maritime Policy & Compliance. Following a 32-year career in the Navy, Hunn has held senior positions at Carnival Corporation & plc for nearly a decade, focusing on corporate-wide efforts to establish maritime policy standards, while overseeing the company’s health, environmental, safety, and security practices. Hunn and senior health and safety executives from each of the lines will review all safety and emergency response policies and procedures, officer and crew training and evaluation, bridge management and company-wide response and support efforts. Hunn will report to the Health, Environment, Safety & Security Committee of the Board, and to Howard Frank, vice chairman and chief operations officer of Carnival Corporation.
In addition, the Health, Environment, Safety & Security Committee is engaging outside industry-leading experts in the fields of emergency response organization, training and implementation to conduct an audit of all of the company’s emergency response and safety procedures and to conduct a thorough review of the Costa Concordia accident.
Frank said, “This company-wide initiative will identify lessons learned and best practices to further ensure the security and safety of all of our passengers and crew.”
Carnival Corporation & plc also supports the call for a comprehensive evaluation of safety regulations by the International Maritime Organization, which was requested earlier today by the Cruise Lines International Association.

Crystal's New Fast-Track Embarkation Brings Guests on Board Sooner
LOS ANGELES, Jan. 18: Crystal
Cruises, known for its ultra-hands-on service, announces a
first-of-its kind check-in process that eases embarkation procedures
for all guests. Effective today in every Crystal embarkation port,
"Crystal Fast-Track Check-In" eliminates 100% of ship check-in
procedures in port terminal waiting areas, transitioning guests from
dock security to the Six-Star comfort of Crystal Symphony and
Crystal Serenity lounges.
By utilizing a new barcode on each
guest cruise ticket, a new ticket scanning system and the
consistency of Crystal's own onboard crew, the cruise line is
accelerating the check-in required on the first day of sailing. As
is customary, in each embarkation port, porters load guests' luggage
onto the ship, and guests observe required local security procedures
as they enter port terminals. However, instead of processing
documentation in the terminal, guests are whisked through and
ushered on board to complete registration and receive their room
keys/boarding cards with photo identification.
"Travelers want to start their vacations as soon as possible," says
Thomas Mazloum, Crystal's senior vice president, operations. "By
enhancing the ease, comfort and speed of embarkation day logistics,
our guests get instant access to the ship and can enjoy the luxury
of the Crystal Experience all the sooner."
Crystal's ethos of warm and friendly attentiveness, proffered by
top-trained service staff from around the world, has earned the line
a reputation for elevating hospitality to an art form. With no guest
request left untended, Crystal Cruises has been the perfect choice
for luxury travelers for over two decades, earning "World's Best"
ratings more than any other cruise line, hotel or resort in history.

Lloyd's List Tracking Data Shows That Costa Concordia Sailed Similar
Path on Previous Voyage
LONDON, Jan 18: Exclusive analysis of
Lloyd's List Intelligence vessel tracking data shows that Costa
Concordia sailed within 230 m of the coast of Giglio Island on a
previous voyage, even closer to shore than where it hit rocks last
Friday.
Lloyd's List has uncovered new
evidence which indicates that last Friday's Costa Concordia disaster
may not be a black and white case of shipmaster error.
The cruise ship, which capsized off the Italian coast, had
previously changed course to get closer to Giglio on the night of
August 14 last year, owners Costa Cruises have said. The company's
CEO, Pier Luigi Foschi, stressed the decision was taken under the
authorization of the local maritime authority and the permission of
Costa after the route was reviewed. In a news conference on Monday,
he claimed that the vessel was never closer than 500 metres from the
coast at any point in that voyage.
Last Friday's ill-fated route, however, was described by Costa
Cruises as a deviation from the pre-planned route to make a
manoeuvre that was "unauthorized, unapproved and unknown to Costa."
However, tracking data obtained by Lloyd's List Intelligence
proprietary land-based AIS receivers shows that the approved and
unapproved routes were just meters apart and that the previously
approved route took the vessel closer to shore than the unapproved
route.
"The previously approved route took the vessel far closer to shore
than the 500 meters claimed by Costa," explains Richard Meade,
Editor of Lloyd's List. "This is not a black and white case. Our
data suggests that both routes took the vessel within 200 meters of
the impact point and that the authorized route was actually closer
to shore."
Charts could be a critical part of the case for the defense, should
the master face criminal prosecution. UKHO charts of the area show
no rocks in the area where Concordia was holed.

American Cruise Lines Announces More Amenities aboard Queen of the
Mississippi
GUILFORD, CT – Jan 18: American
Cruise Lines, the leader in small ship cruising, today announced
additional amenities aboard Queen of the Mississippi, the brand new
150-passenger authentic paddlewheeler currently under construction
and nearing completion in Salisbury, MD. In an effort to maximize
the view for guests, even more staterooms and suites will have
sliding glass doors to access the private balconies on both the
third and fourth decks. Already the largest staterooms in the
industry, the floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors will add an extra
element of spaciousness, while also allowing for entirely private
and unobstructed viewing of the Mississippi River. 85% of Queen of
the Mississippi’s staterooms feature private balconies, and 71 %
have sliding glass doors to those balconies.
The brand new Queen of the
Mississippi will also have the latest in onboard communication
technology, featuring telephones in every stateroom. This allows
passengers to conveniently call for room service, while also
allowing them to communicate with fellow passengers in the comfort
and privacy of their own staterooms. Complimentary amenities and
features of Mississippi River itineraries and aboard Queen of the
Mississippi include:
Fully-functioning authentic
paddlewheel that can be viewed from the Paddlewheel Lounge
Floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors to private balconies
Room Service
Wi-Fi in all staterooms
Satellite TV and DVD player in all staterooms
Gourmet coffee brewers in all staterooms
High Tea served in the afternoon
Top Deck Café – Hot and cold beverages, snacks, pastries available
throughout the day
Bottled water and soft drinks
Nightly turndown service
In addition, Queen of the Mississippi
is a low density ship boasting the highest square-foot-per-
passenger ratio in the industry. Single travelers will also be happy
to know that there are numerous single staterooms aboard, all of
which are highly spacious, more so than even most standard
staterooms on all other Mississippi riverboats, and also feature
private balconies with sliding glass doors.
“The highest-quality onboard
experience is what our guests can expect aboard Queen of the
Mississippi,” said Timothy Beebe, Vice President of American Cruise
Lines. “Every day we think of more ways to maximize comfort and
address the desires of our guests. This ship will truly raise the
bar in river cruising.”
As construction continues, now 11
weeks ahead of schedule, additional onboard features and amenities
will be announced. More details on entertainment and shore
excursions will also soon be available. The Queen of the Mississippi
boasts 78 staterooms much larger than those on any other Mississippi
riverboat, sliding glass doors to spacious private balconies and all
of the amenities today’s travelers expect, while maintaining the
elegance and traditional Victorian luxury of classic late 1800s
Mississippi riverboats. American Cruise Lines will operate the
authentic paddlewheeler over the entire Mississippi River System,
including the Ohio, Cumberland and Tennessee Rivers. The Queen of
the Mississippi will also be able to travel at significantly higher
speeds than all other Mississippi riverboats, minimizing night
travel and making more itineraries possible with longer visits to
the river towns. A number of unique riverboat journeys are planned
that take passengers as far north as St. Paul, MN on the Mississippi
River and as far east as Pittsburgh, PA on the Ohio River.
American Cruise Lines, the largest U.S. cruise company, operates the
newest fleet of small ships in the industry and offers more than 35
unique itineraries along the inland waterways and rivers of the
Pacific Northwest, Alaska, the Mississippi River System and East
Coast of the United States, from New England to Florida. To learn

with Crystal Cruises' tradition of bringing high-quality, authentic
international experiences to its guests in unique ways, the luxe

Princess Cruises Community Foundation Partners With Susan G. Komen
for the Cure® to Fund Two Breast Cancer Research Grants
SANTA CLARITA, CA, Jan 11: The Princess Cruises Community
Foundation* and Susan G. Komen for the Cure® have announced a new
three-year partnership for two research projects supporting the
fight against breast cancer. One of the Foundation-supported
research grants, at the University of California at Los Angeles
(UCLA), will look at the molecular effects of the chemical BPA on
breast cancer, while the other, at Stanford University School of
Medicine, will study breast stem cell differentiation.
The projects are funded by the Princess Cruises Community
Foundation’s On Deck for the Cure® program, which is a 5K
fundraising walk for passengers held during the course of every
Princess cruise. Since the On Deck for the Cure program was launched on Princess
ships in 2007, thousands of passengers have participated in the
fundraising walks held during the course of each cruise. The
five-kilometer walks around the ships’ decks always draw an
enthusiastic group of passengers who donate a minimum of $15 to
participate, and receive a special hat, and a post-walk appreciation
reception.
The Foundation has been welcomed into the Komen Million
Dollar Council for surpassing this donation milestone.
“These two research projects are both important steps toward finding
causes and treatments for breast cancer,” said Alan Buckelew,
president of the Princess Cruises Community Foundation, and also
president and CEO of Princess Cruises. “Reaching the million dollar
donation level and being able to fund this work underscores our
commitment to this cause, and we want to acknowledge the support of
our passengers for this important milestone. On every cruise, they
take time out of their vacation to circle the decks, raising both
funds and awareness to fight one of the leading causes of death for
women in the U.S.”
The research supported by Susan G. Komen with funding from the
Princess Cruises Community Foundation’s On Deck for the Cure program
includes:
• Determining the Molecular Effects of Bisphenol A
(BPA) in Mammary Gland Stem Cells and Breast Cancer Proliferation:
Headed by Dr. Susan Krum at UCLA, this study will investigate
whether a chemical known as Bisphenol A (BPA) – commonly found in
plastic containers, ranging from baby bottles to food containers –
causes or accelerates breast cancer. BPA is similar to the hormone
estrogen, which is responsible for stimulating the growth of a large
percentage of breast cancers. Dr. Krum and her colleagues will test
whether BPA, acting like estrogen, may also stimulate tumor growth.
• Functional Analysis of the DLK1-GTL2 Imprinted Region
in Breast Stem Cell Differentiation and Tumorigenesis: Dr. Michael
Clarke heads this Stanford University School of Medicine study to
attempt to determine whether small RNA molecules (MicroRNA) from a
specific region in breast stem cells can be used to treat or predict
breast cancer. The study will also investigate whether restoring
irregular MicroRNA in breast cancer cells can prevent tumor growth.
* About the Princess Cruises Community Foundation: The Princess
Cruises Community Foundation is a nonprofit public benefit
corporation providing financial and in-kind support to non-profit
organizations that support community health, children, education,
the environment, and disaster relief in ports visited by Princess
ships, in regions where Princess seafarers reside, and in locales
from which Princess operates. Further information about the

InnerSea Discoveries Adds Third Ship & New Itineraries For
More Uncommon Un-Cruises In Alaska
Seattle, WA, Jan 10: Building on its sold-out 2011 inaugural season
in Alaska, InnerSea Discoveries diversifies its cruising range in
Alaska for 2012 with the addition of the 76-guest Wilderness
Explorer sailing a new Northern Passages and Glacier Bay itinerary
between Juneau and Sitka, Alaska. The ship joins the 60-guest
Wilderness Adventurer and 76-guest Wilderness Discoverer together
sailing 10 itineraries in Alaska ranging from seven- to 21-nights.
“The success of our operations in Alaska affirms our belief that
there is pent-up demand for this style of close-up, active,
adventure travel at a moderate price, “said Tim Jacox, executive
vice president of sales and marketing. “We had more demand than we
could accommodate in Alaska last year, so we added the 76-guest
Wilderness Explorer to our fleet and hope to introduce even more
adventurers to expedition cruising.”
Guided by nature and wildlife, InnerSea Discoveries’ expedition
un-cruise itineraries are flexible to maximize wildlife viewing
opportunities and adventure activities. With a focus on exploring
nature up-close, guests may choose from many included activities
such as kayaking, hiking, skiff explorations, whale-watching and
stand up paddle boarding. Expert expedition leaders and guides lead
excursions, assist in matching guests to the ranked activity level
that best suits them, and provide interpretation along the way.
Northern Passages and Glacier Bay
A new Northern Passages and Glacier Bay itinerary aboard
the renovated Wilderness Explorer sails one-way, weeklong cruises
between Juneau and Sitka, Alaska and reverse from June 2 through
August 18, 2012. Guests interested in maximizing their glacier
viewing opportunities will enjoy three full days spent inside
Glacier Bay exploring multiple tidewater glaciers including the
lesser-visited scenic and remote East Arm of Glacier Bay with Muir
Glacier. A park ranger stays aboard the ship and leads hiking and
kayaking excursions along with shipboard guides. Other areas that
may be explored include Icy Strait, Chatham Strait, Chichagof Island
and Peril Strait.
For an uncommon adventure, guests may take an adventurous spin
aboard one of the ship’s innovative human-powered water craft for an
up-close look at Reid Glacier while pedaling along with seven
friends. The ship’s captain expertly navigates waterways to
encounter bears and whales throughout the cruise. Rates start at
$3,095 per person, double occupancy.
Western Coves
The Wilderness Discoverer and Wilderness Adventurer
alternate sailing weeklong Eastern Coves and Western Coves
itineraries. The Western Coves un-cruise travels from Ketchikan to
Juneau, Alaska and transits stunningly narrow El Capitan Passage
with a chance to explore El Capitan Cave, historic Klawock, Baranof
Island, Patterson Bay, The Brothers Islands, whale watching in
Frederick Sound, Endicott Arm with Dawes Glacier and Ford’s Terror
Wilderness.
The Western Coves itinerary features the most remote “skookum”
wilderness adventure with rugged coastline, excellent opportunities
for scenic kayaking expeditions and backcountry hikes through wild
and woolly wilderness. Combing the more remote islands of the Inside
Passage, guests sailing this itinerary explore designated wilderness
areas and kayak, hike and skiff around the lesser-visited, scenic
Prince of Wales Island. A half-day visit to the Native village of
Klawock includes a cultural excursion to the village’s carving
school and totem park.
Eastern Coves
The Eastern Coves itinerary meanders through east-oriented
protected waterways between Juneau and Ketchikan, Alaska and
reverse. One-week adventures aboard the Wilderness Adventurer and
Wilderness Discoverer deftly navigate the mainland’s coves and open
up to hidden rainforest trails. Highlights include a chance to hike
on top of Baird Glacier and experience scenic and remote Walker Cove
inside Misty Fjord’s National Monument. Other areas on the discovery
menu include Tracy Arm fjord and the twin Sawyer Glaciers, whale
watching in Frederick Sound, Thomas Bay, Wrangell and Yes Bay.
The Eastern Coves’ landscape offers exceptional hiking opportunities
at various activity levels. During two days in Thomas Bay, guests
may enjoy a forest trek along the Cascade Creek Trail, the
boot-sucking Baird Glacier trek and the five-mile hike in to
Patterson Lake for spectacular kayaking. A half-day visit in
Wrangell includes a visit to Kiksetti Totem Park. Rates for Western
and Eastern Coves cruises start at $1,695 per person, double
occupancy.
Wilderness Passages of Discovery
In 2012, five Wilderness Passages of Discovery voyages
cover 900 nautical miles between Seattle and Juneau (or reverse)
along the dramatic coastlines of Washington, British Columbia and
Alaska’s Inside Passage. These two week value season departures get
extraordinarily close to areas such as the San Juan Islands with a
visit to Friday Harbor, coastline of British Columbia, Misty Fjords
National Monument plus destinations in either the Western Coves
(northbound) or Eastern Coves (southbound).
In spring 2012, the Wilderness Adventurer departs Seattle April 28
and the Wilderness Explorer on May 19. Departing Juneau for Seattle,
the Wilderness Explorer leaves August 25, Wilderness Discoverer on
September 8 and Wilderness Adventurer on September 15. Rates start
at $3,295 per person, double occupancy.
The ULTIMATES
For the utmost adventure in Alaska, un-cruise itineraries
may be combined for the ultimate wilderness explorations without
repetition. The Ultimate Adventure combines the Eastern Coves and
Western Coves itineraries into a 14-night expedition roundtrip
Juneau. The Ultimate Coves & Passages combines the Western Coves and
Northern Passages itineraries into a 14-night expedition from
Ketchikan to Sitka, Alaska. The Ultimate Bays and Fjords combines
the Northern Passages and Eastern Coves itineraries into a 14-night
expedition from Sitka to Ketchikan, Alaska. And for the utmost
adventure sure to grow moss on your back, the Ultra Adventure

adventurers’ dream 21-night expedition.
Shipboard amenities include complimentary on-deck yoga classes, a
large resource library, well-stocked DVD library and board games. A

for a fee. An underwater camera mounted on the ships’ bow will
stream video from the underwater world to flatscreen televisions in
all guest rooms and the lounge. Healthy and hearty meals feature
fresh ingredients including locally caught Alaskan seafood. A 3-1
guest to crew ratio ensures attentive service. Cruise rates include
transfers and all activities except optional excursions. Port
charges of US$167 per person per week, massages, spirits and
gratuities are extra. To book an un-cruise or to request additional

Carnival Kicks Off Contest Tied to New Thrill 5D Theater
to Debut on Carnival Breeze
MIAMI, Jan 9: Carnival Cruise Lines has launched “The 5D Challenge:
TRIVIAL PURSUIT Edition”--a Facebook promotion designed to highlight
the new Thrill 5D Theater set to debut on the Carnival Breeze in
June 2012. The contest can be found on Carnival’s Facebook page under
the Carnival Breeze tab.
With Carnival Breeze’s Thrill 5D Theater, guests will enjoy an
exhilarating, multi-dimensional experience that will make them feel
like they are actually in the movie. The theater combines a
high-definition 3D projection system with 4D elements such as
squirting water and bubbles, and original special effects that will
tickle guests’ legs, blow air on their necks and poke them in their
seats. Seats within the theater will shift back and forth, move from
side to side and also vibrate, creating an exciting
“fifth-dimensional” element. Guests will receive special 3D glasses
that deliver a truly immersive movie-going experience.
To excite fans about Carnival’s new Thrill 5D Theater and to get
them into the “movie-viewing” mindset, the company under license
from Hasbro, Inc. has created “The 5D Challenge: TRIVIAL PURSUIT
Edition” on Facebook. Contest participants are asked to answer
movie-themed trivia questions from Hasbro’s popular TRIVIAL PURSUIT
brand. One prize will be given away daily for the next five days
(January 9-13) with contestants required to correctly answer three
daily trivia questions to enter into a prize drawing. Prizes include
a 50-inch 3D Plasma HDTV, 3D phone, HD camcorder, and a $250 movie
theater gift card. Also Hasbro Video and Board Game Prize Packs,
including an Xbox 360 gaming console, will be given away throughout
the contest period.
\
“We are delighted to continue our collaboration with our brand
partner Hasbro on this unique contest showcasing Carnival Breeze’s
new 5D Theatre, which will be part of the ship’s many exciting
on-board features designed to thrill, captivate and entertain our
guests,” said Jim Berra, Carnival’s senior vice president and chief
marketing officer.
Carnival Breeze to Offer All Fun Ship 2.0 Entertainment
Features
Carnival Breeze will be the first ship to feature all of
the new entertainment offerings that are part of the line’s Fun Ship
2.0 enhancement initiative, a $500 million
initiative that will completely transform Carnival’s on-board guest
experience.
Among the exciting options is Hasbro, The Game Show, a series of
larger-than-life productions and entertainment activities based on
the popular Family Game Night television series produced by Hasbro
Studios and seen on The Hub, a network for children and their
families. Hasbro, The Game Show will put guests right in the middle
of their favorite Hasbro games. Six main games are to be featured:
Sorry! Sliders, which involves a giant shuffleboard court; Simon
Flash, where two teams of four guests wear giant light-up color
boxes and must shuffle themselves quickly to repeat a color
sequence; Yahtzee Bowling, with a giant ball and
larger-than-life-sized bowling pins; Operation SAM DUNK, which is
set up like a skee-ball board where contestants try to get the balls
into different slots on the “patient’s” body, and Connect 4
BASKETBALL, which uses a basketball setup rather than the
traditional checkers to play.
Carnival Breeze will also be the first ship to offer Playlist
Productions which will combine captivating live performances with
high-tech LED staging and special effects to set a new standard in
seagoing entertainment. These exhilarating revues are set to widely
popular and memorable music encompassing a variety of styles, genres
and eras. Playlist performances will have guests singing along and
dancing in their seats during the hit-packed, 30-minute shows
created by leading producers, directors and choreographers who have
worked on critically acclaimed productions for Broadway, London’s
West End and some of the world’s most popular musical acts.
Also featured on Carnival Breeze will be the new “Punchliner Comedy
Club Presented by George Lopez” through a partnership with the
popular comedian and TV personality. Lopez is serving as Carnival’s
“curator of comedy,” acting as a consultant on the vetting and
hiring of comedic talent for the line’s hugely popular comedy
program. Additionally, DJs on the Carnival Breeze will be trained
under the new “DJ IRIE Spin’iversity” led by the award-winning DJ
IRIE, a highly talented disc jockey widely known in Miami and Las
Vegas.
Other features on the Carnival Breeze will include Guy’s Burger
Joint, which will offer burgers custom-created by renowned chef and
Food Network star Guy Fieri, a Red Frog Pub, featuring Carnival’s
own private-label draft beer – ThirstyFrog Red, Cucina del Capitano,
a family-style Italian eatery and a wide variety of other fun and
exciting dining, bar and entertainment options. Also, many of the ship’s entertainment features and other elements
are highlighted within a new virtual tour, and series of panoramic images.
Following an inaugural 12-day cruise from Venice departing June 3,
2012, Carnival Breeze will operate a series of 12-day Mediterranean
voyages from Barcelona through October 25, 2012. After its
trans-Atlantic crossing, Carnival Breeze will sail year-round from
Miami beginning November 24, 2012, offering port-intensive six- and
eight-day cruises that showcase the best the Caribbean has to offer.

Sapphire Princess Enters Drydock to Add Signature Princess Cruises
Features
SANTA CLARITA, CA, Jan 9: Sapphire Princess arrived today at the
Victoria Shipyards drydock in British Columbia to begin a dramatic,
four-week transformation. The drydock continues a multi-year fleet
renovation process that has brought Princess Cruises’ signature
features to most of its ships. When the ship re-enters service again
on Feb 4, passengers will be able to enjoy a brand-new Piazza atrium
with the International Café and Vines wine bar, plus the new
Alfredo’s Pizzeria. On the top decks, passengers will enjoy poolside
movies on the new giant Movies Under the Stars screen, and an
opportunity to relax in the ship’s “pocket of tranquility,” the
adults-only Sanctuary.
“It’s been an incredible process over the past few years to retrofit
these popular features onto our earlier-introduced ships, but we
know our passengers appreciate that they can now find their favorite
amenities on virtually any vessel in our fleet,” said Jan Swartz,
Princess Cruises executive vice president.
The many changes to Sapphire Princess include:
• New Piazza Atrium: The ship’s atrium space will be
redesigned to include this signature Princess feature – a
European-inspired social hub of the ship combining always-changing
quick bites and light meals, beverages, entertainment, shopping and
guest services. The Piazza will feature the International Café for
pastries, fresh panini sandwiches, salads, fresh-baked cookies and a
variety of coffee drinks. Passengers will also enjoy a new Vines
wine bar offering a selection of more than 30 wines by the glass,
plus a selection of tapas and sushi, and a wine shop where
passengers can purchase their favorite bottle.
• Alfredo’s Pizzeria: Introduced last year
aboard Grand Princess, Alfredo’s will expand to its second location
on Sapphire Princess. The sit-down pizzeria serves up an enticing
menu of freshly prepared, hand-stretched, individual-size pizzas.
Named for the line’s master executive chef, Alfredo Marzi, the
pizzeria will feature an open kitchen where passengers can watch
chefs create their custom-made pies.
• Movies Under the Stars: Sapphire Princess
will be the final ship to introduce Movies Under the Stars on board.
The giant poolside movie screen will showcase feature films,
concerts, awards shows and sports events, and passengers can enjoy
their viewing on padded loungers under warm, fleece blankets.
Complimentary popcorn and other treats enhance the al fresco
entertainment experience.
• The Sanctuary: Sapphire Princess is also the
final ship to receive The Sanctuary, a tranquil retreat exclusively
for adults. Added prior to drydock, the new Sanctuary space has
already received an enthusiastic welcome from passengers enjoying
the enhanced comforts of this peaceful oasis, as Serenity Stewards
attend to their every need, offering refreshing beverages, light
snacks, pre-loaded MP3 players, and the cooling mist of an Evian
atomizer.
Also part of the renovation are several relocated and upgraded
venues, including the Art Gallery, Internet Café and Library, and
the Photo-Video Gallery. New carpet and upholstery will be installed
throughout the ship, and staterooms will feature new flat-screen
televisions. The newly renovated Sapphire Princess will debut on Feb
4 in Los Angeles when the ship will depart on a 14-day Hawaiian
Islands cruise.

Crystal Symphony to Receive Posh Redesign During 2012 Dry Dock
LOS ANGELES, Jan. 9: Several of Crystal Cruises' signature spaces
aboard Crystal Symphony will be remodeled during a major $15 million
dry dock scheduled for June 2012. In just 15 days at Germany's Blohm
+ Voss shipyard, ultra-luxe Crystal Cruises is redesigning the
ship's Avenue Saloon, Palm Court lounge, Galaxy showroom, Hollywood
Theatre, Bridge Lounge, and Fantasia and Waves "junior cruisers"
areas in ways that are stylishly modern, yet in keeping with each
space's spirited atmosphere beloved by guests. In the past two
years, Crystal Cruises has invested more than $50 million in its
vessels, generating praise - and even industry awards - for their
great style.
"Our guests expect the finest of luxury in every element of a
Crystal cruise. They have a keen appreciation for design and expect
the very best in furnishings, finishes and fine appointments," says
President Gregg Michel. "By the completion of this project, within
the past five years we will have redesigned every room aboard
Crystal Symphony with great attention to rich, chic details."
Avenue Saloon: For this popular piano bar's makeover,
Crystal is bringing back the designer who created the room's
trademark intimate, "clubby" look: Kirk Nix, with LA's KNA Design.
The piano, shutters, and warm, jazz-era atmosphere remain, but a
room reconfiguration adds more seating, including antique-style,
brass-tack couches and large, red wall sofa. Rich burgundies, golds,
caramels, moss greens, and creams weave through the swivel,
embossed-leaf barstools, hand-tufted carpets, plush pillows,
textured wall upholstery, and artwork. Wood flooring, bar front and
back, stone and wood bartop, edge-lit glass shelves, and pop-up
ceiling finalize the new touches.
Palm Court: KNA is also revamping the ship's signature
panoramic lounge for high tea, dancing, cocktail parties, and casual
drinks with a view. A sleek, contemporary transformation brings the
outside in, taking advantage of sweeping ocean views, while keeping
emblematic room elements like palms and wicker. In addition to a new
entrance, the bar and dance areas expand with added seating and a
larger, spiral-design dance floor with overhead ceiling feature.
Conversation tables; laser-cut marble flooring and carpet; lit,
alabaster urns; and a studded nail and leather wall design offset
the chartreuse, aqua, grey, and ivory color spectrum that plays
throughout the all-new sofas and chairs.
Galaxy Lounge: Inspired by the glamorous theaters of
yesteryear, Crystal is planning a grand redesign of its main theatre
for live performances, Broadway-style musical productions, and
lavish entertainment experiences. The elegant redo features
namesake-reflective motifs, such as starburst lighting and carpeting
and lit crystal-speckled wall panels that hint of the night sky.
Formal purple drapes, "old gold" walls and a subtle diamond design
in upholstery, fabric wallcovering, and glass doors suggest the
richness of royalty. New, mohair chairs and sofas, cocktail tables,
and ambient lighting underneath banquettes enhance the sophisticated
supper club ambience. A new, limestone floor entrance is flanked by
LCD screens announcing upcoming shows and attractions. Additional
touches by London's SMC Design include artwork niches with abstract
figurative sculpture and lively lilac, pink, and crimson shades
befitting of a dramatic stage.
Hollywood Theatre: London-based Adfecto's redo of the
ship's movie theater is a visual throwback to the classic Hollywood
film era, with all comfort and technical advantages of contemporary
cinemas. Plush leather armchairs with individual pull-out tables and
an earth tone color palette of aubergine, ebony, cinnamon, ash grey,
and ivory set the backdrop; circular-patterned carpeting, sconces
lining the walls, and a new entrance reflect art deco elements.
Technical updates include boosted surround sound audio processing
and an enhanced lecture and presentation control system for
enrichment speaker sessions.
Bridge Lounge: The ship's space for cards, games, and
presentations receives a refined rejuvenation via all new furniture,
including game tables and chairs; lighting, including striking
chandelier, sconces, and recessed fixtures; floor-to-ceiling window
treatments; wallcoverings and ceiling feature; presentation tools,
including podium, white board, storage, video and sound system; and
silver, blue, and sage color scheme, all courtesy of KNA Design.
Fantasia & Waves: A new layout for both Fantasia kids play
area and Waves teen video arcade creates separate areas for crafts,
relaxation, screenings (two TVs), teens, and computer usage (teens
and kids separate). Designer Adfecto has also chosen fun,
asymmetrical furniture, Fatboy(TM) bean bags, and vibrant colors
like crimson, sapphire, and various shades of green. New interactive
white board, board games, video game stations, and video project
system further refresh junior activities options.
Other ship enhancements include new electronic, "do not disturb"
doorbells in all staterooms (as installed on Crystal Serenity last
May) and environmentally-efficient lighting installations for all
electric upgrades/changes. All remodeling, as well as bi-annual
maintenance and cleaning, will take place while dry docked at
Hamburg's Blohm + Voss shipyard from June 1 to 16. For more
information and Crystal reservations, contact a travel agent, call
888-799-4625, visit crystalcruises.com.

Celebrity Cruises Invites Consumers to "Exit" the Everyday
& "Enter" Modern Luxury
MIAMI, Jan. 9: Celebrity Cruises is entering the New Year with a
series of physical and virtual experiences designed to invite
consumers to express their "exit strategy" - not in a business
context, but in terms of sharing what they would love to "exit" in
their day-to-day life to "enter" a modern luxury Celebrity vacation
experience. Perhaps it's exiting "hyperscheduling" to relax and
reconnect with family in the Caribbean sun. Or, exiting the 12-hour
rush hour to leisurely indulge in the beauty and culture of Europe
by day, and fine wines served by one of the world's largest staffs
of expertly trained sommeliers by night. Maybe it's exiting
headlines, deadlines and check out lines to view the breathtaking
vista of Alaska from a private veranda.
"At Celebrity, we recognize that consumers' vacation time is
precious, and we're committed to offering a modern luxury experience
that makes the most of that time," said Celebrity Cruises Vice
President of Marketing Lisa Kauffman. "We believe no other cruise
brand - and for that matter, very few land-based hotels or resorts -
deliver on the concept of modern luxury; and by that, we mean the
modernity of our ships' design, the anticipatory and engaging
service of our crew, the spectacular quality of our food, the wide
variety of dining options, and the inviting ambiance of every
restaurant, bar, boutique, spa, stateroom and suite onboard. Modern
luxury very succinctly and genuinely sums up the Celebrity brand."
Consumers can express what they'd like to exit to enter Celebrity's
modern luxury, and share it socially, through an engaging,
interactive digital experience on Celebrity's
Facebook page.
There, they can create a complimentary e-card and upload a photo to
share with others what they want to exit from and the destination
they want to experience most, and register for Celebrity's "Exit to
Enter" sweepstakes running from Jan 9 through March 30, 2012. The
grand prize, with an approximate retail value of $10,000, is the
winner's choice of a cruise for two from among a select group of
sailings to a vast array of the captivating destinations Celebrity
visits, including Alaska, Asia, Australia/New Zealand, Bermuda,
Europe or the Caribbean, complete with roundtrip airfare for the
winner and guest.
Celebrity is complementing the social component of the campaign with
similar print, online and outdoor communications in various markets
across North America, and even on in-flight tray tables on commuter
flights from Boston, New York and Washington, DC. At the same time,
to benefit consumers eager to accept Celebrity's invitation to
"enter modern luxury," the line is presenting a special savings of
up to $300 per stateroom for vacationers who book an oceanview or
above stateroom on a select sailing in Alaska, Australia/New
Zealand, Canada, Caribbean, Europe, Hawaii or Panama Canal from Jan
9 through Feb 5, 2012. Specific savings amounts and qualified
sailings are featured on the Celebrity web site at celebritycruises.com.
Celebrity also is deploying teams of brand ambassadors to
high-traffic areas in New York, Miami and San Francisco later this
month to surprise busy consumers with a moment of relaxation and a
little hint of Celebrity's modern luxury.

Silversea Introduces New Land Program With Focus On Slow Food
Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Jan 9: Silversea Cruises has created a new "Slow
Food Adventure in Tuscany" land option that will debut on three
Mediterranean voyages in 2012. In collaboration with Slow Food
Italy, the ultra-luxury cruise company has designed an exclusive
three-night program that will highlight the culinary and cultural
traditions of Tuscany and introduce participants to local wine
producers and products that adhere to the Slow Food philosophy of
preserving biodiversity and gastronomic traditions.
The program will be conducted with one or more members of
Silversea's own culinary team on hand to provide participants with
expert guidance and exclusive access to local producers committed to
responsible and sustainable food production, as recommended by Slow
Food. Participants might visit a dairy farm or stroll through olive
groves and vineyards to learn the secrets of traditional food
production. Guided by Silversea's culinary team, guests will gain a
greater understanding of the region's wines as well as the
ingredients carefully selected for the dishes served in La Terrazza,
Silversea's Italian specialty restaurant, the only restaurant at sea
that partners with Slow Food Italy to showcase products reflecting
the standards of Slow Food.
"This is a new concept, and probably the first in the industry,
where the ship's culinary team accompanies and interacts with guests
on a pre- or post-cruise land program," said Darius Mehta,
Silversea's vice president of air and land programs. "It's an
excellent opportunity for foodies and travelers alike to discover
the beauty, food, tradition and culture of Tuscany, while also
gaining greater insight into the principles of the Slow Food
movement."
From Rome, travelers will enjoy a scenic drive into the heart of the
Brunello region of Tuscany, leading to the vineyard estate of
Castello Banfi, producer of some of the region's best-known wines,
including several selected for La Banca del Vino, the Slow
Food-inspired wine bank of the University of Gastronomy in Pollenzo
(Bra), Italy. The program includes three nights at Il Borgo,
Castello Banfi's elegant hotel nestled amid the vineyards and olive
groves of Montalcino. Highlights include a cooking class, where
participants will learn to prepare typical Tuscan specialties with
the help of Silversea's own culinary team and the estate's
professional staff; an in-depth tour of the Castello Banfi winery;
and a full-day tour of Slow Food-recommended vineyards, olive
groves, farms or other traditional food-producing operations in and
around Bolgheri, escorted by Silversea's culinary team, giving
participants insider access to producers whose operations normally
are not open to the public.
This three-night sojourn is offered as a pre-cruise option on Silver
Wind's April 30 voyage (#2212), Rome to Venice, and Silver Spirit's
Oct 22 sailing (#5233) from Rome to Barcelona. It's also available
as a post-cruise option on Silver Wind's April 17 voyage (#2210),
Barcelona to Rome. In addition to accommodations at Il Borgo for
three nights, the price includes all transportation, transfers,
guided sightseeing and some meals. Visit silversea.com for complete
details.

Alaskan Dream Cruises Adds New Itineraries, Ports of Call
Alaskan Dream Cruises, one of the newest small-ship cruise lines
sailing in Southeast Alaska, is announcing three new itineraries,
additional ports of call and ship renovations. Alaskan Dream Cruises
is owned and operated by an Alaska Native family in Sitka, Alaska.
The company will operate its second season from May through
September 2012.
The 42-passenger Alaskan Dream will sail on three new itineraries in
2012: an 8-day trip that focuses on many less-explored destinations,
including Hobart Bay and Kasaan, and two more comprehensive 11- and
13-day trips through the Inside Passage. The three itineraries also
include new ports of call for the cruise line: Ketchikan, Skagway,
Haines, Thorne Bay, Kasaan, Wrangell and Gustavus.
• The new 8-day Alaska’s Inside Passage Sojourn
itinerary travels from Sitka, a community rooted in Alaska’s Russian
history, and ends in Ketchikan, a popular fishing and arts community
in the area. In between, travelers are treated to the lesser known
destinations of the Inside Passage. The village of Kake claims the
world’s largest totem pole; visitors are greeted in Petersburg by
children who perform a Norwegian folk dance; Kasaan is home to the
only remaining Haida clan house in Alaska; Thorne Bay was once the
largest logging camp in the world; and Misty Fjords offers
glacier-sculpted cliffs that staff say rival the awe-inspiring
scenery of Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve. In addition,
Hobart Bay is an adventure base camp visited exclusively by Alaskan
Dream Cruises, offering sea kayaking, all-terrain vehicle tours and
small Zego sport boat excursions.
• The Alaska’s Southeast Explorer 11-day itinerary also
traverses the waters between Ketchikan and Sitka, but expands the
route to include the capital city of Juneau; Glacier Bay National
Park and Gustavus, the small community that sits at the entrance of
the park; Skagway, known for its gold rush history; Haines a small
fishing community with an expansive bald eagle preserve; and
Wrangell, one of the oldest towns in Alaska. Travelers also spend an
evening on Colt Island at Orca Point Lodge, which is available only
to guests of Alaskan Dream Cruises and its sister company Allen
Marine Tours, for an Alaska salmon and king crab dinner.
• The 13-day Alaska’s Glacier Bay and Inside Passage
Voyage follows a similar route as the 11-day cruise, but spends
additional time off the beaten path. Guests explore Windham Bay from
a private wilderness retreat that offers fishing, sea kayaking and
two-person outboard motor boats. A full day is spent whale watching
and viewing other marine life among the Inian Islands and near Point
Adolphus, a world-famous feeding area for endangered humpback
whales. Guests will also visit Lake Eva near Sitka for a hike on a
newly rebuilt trail in Tongass National Forest, the nation’s
largest.
Complimentary shore excursions that range from adventure activities
to cultural experiences are included in all of the company’s
cruises. In addition, local naturalists and Alaska Native guides
conduct onboard presentations on the rich culture, flora and fauna
of the region.
“Our itineraries and local connections allow travelers to get under
the surface of Southeast Alaska and really explore the small towns
and under-the-radar destinations,” said Michael Wien, Alaskan Dream
Cruises’ vice president of sales and marketing. “We are Alaskans
showing off our state and sharing the places that are truly special
to us.”
Alaskan Dream Cruises also renovated both of its ships to welcome
guests in time for the new season. Its 42-passenger Alaskan Dream,
formerly the Executive Explorer, was redone with new carpet and
paint, closets were added in passenger cabins and the forward lounge
was revamped. The Admiralty Dream, formerly the Spirit of Columbia,
was give a new, lighter color scheme in the cabins and public areas,
as well as new carpet. The forward lounge was redesigned to give
guests more space to relax and connect with each other.
Alaskan Dream Cruises offers a small-ship atmosphere and an
insider’s view of more than 15 ports in Southeast Alaska aboard its
3-, 6-, 8-, 11-, and 13-day cruises. The company was launched in
2011 by the Allen family, members of the Tlingit Kaagwaantaan Clan.
The Allen family also founded Allen Marine, Inc., a boat-building
company in 1967 and operates Allen Marine Tours, which offers day
cruise tours to travelers in Alaska’s Inside Passage. For more

Norwegian Cruise Line to Introduce New Youth Program
MIAMI, Jan 5: To better meet the needs of the growing family
vacation market, Norwegian Cruise Line announced today that it is
revitalizing its current youth program and will implement a new best
in class program fleet wide. The re-branded program will be
introduced on Norwegian Gem in mid-February and will be rolled out
to all of the line’s Freestyle Cruising® ships subsequently.
“More and more families are choosing a cruise for their vacation
since it represents such a good value and offers so much for the
entire family. In fact, close to 150,000 children sailed on our
ships in 2010 and that number continues to rise,” said Kevin
Sheehan, Norwegian Cruise Line’s chief executive officer. “We’ve
already taken family programming to the next level by offering
Nickelodeon experiences on some ships. Now, we want to make sure
that we are continuing to offer the best possible experience for
families. To do this, we are investing millions of dollars in
revamping our youth and family programming.”
The current program, Norwegian’s Kid’s Crew in place since 1999,
will be renamed and the age groups are being redefined to better
address the skills and interests of children. The new age groups
will be: three to five years; six to eight years; nine to 12 years;
along with two teen groups: 13 to 14 and 15 to 17 years. There will
also be programming for babies and toddlers ages six months to two
years.
The new fully developed and enhanced curriculum tailored to each age
group is being produced in conjunction with The King’s Foundation
and Camps, a United Kingdom-based organization that provides high
quality sport and activity programs designed to make a positive
impact on children. More focus will be placed on sporting
activities, arts and crafts, theater and technology. Activities will
change every 30 to 60 minutes depending on the age group and will be
set within blocks of programming time in the morning, afternoon and
evening.
The new curriculum will also include creative themes, such as circus
day, theater/technology/sports and port of call day. The company has
engaged Cirque Du Jour, a New York-based company that specializes in
teaching children real circus skills such as scarf juggling, ball
juggling, plate spinning, clowning and acrobatics. Circus workshops
and shows will also be offered for the entire family. In addition,
the youth programs will be expanded to utilize other areas of the
ships, including the sports courts, rock walls, theaters, lounges
and public spaces and will feature more family events such as
parades and scavenger hunts.
“We want to ensure our youth and teens are engaged in the programs
we offer and that they are having fun,” said Richard Ambrose,
Norwegian Cruise Line’s vice president of entertainment. “We have

Personalize Shore Experiences With New Tours & Packages
from Oceania Cruises
Miami, January 4: Oceania Cruises is introducing more than 1,000 new
tours and excursion packages that allow guests to custom design
their destination experience and enjoy significant savings. This
product enhancement is in addition to previously announced new
beverage packages. Both constitute the third phase of the line’s
ongoing Pillars of Distinction initiative.
“These new packages provide guests the opportunity to take full
advantage of our onboard programs at a price point that is more
compelling than ever before,” said Kunal S. Kamlani, the line’s
president. “We continually strive to raise the bar, offering more
with absolutely no compromise in quality.”
Choose 3 Different Ways to Explore
Beginning with its 2012 Europe season, Oceania Cruises is
offering three distinct sightseeing options and more than 1,000 new
excursions worldwide – many have been designed for the traveler who
may be experiencing ports for the second or third time. In each
case, guests enjoy substantial savings by booking prior to the sail
date. Package highlights include:
· A la Carte – As before, individual shore excursions can
be purchased in advance or onboard the ship. However, starting with
the 2012 Europe season, guests who book excursions prior to sailing
will enjoy 10 percent off on-board prices.
· Your World Collection – This option offers guests the
flexibility to select a combination of excursions that most appeals
to them and save 25 percent off on-board prices. The minimum number
of excursions per package varies based on the number of ports on the
itinerary. For example, on a voyage with eight ports, the minimum is
five excursions.
· Unlimited Passport Collection – Designed for travelers
who wish to fully experience a destination in depth, this package
offers unlimited shore excursions throughout the voyage, a savings
of up to 40 percent. Guests pay a set fee for the entire cruise and
will be able to book an unlimited number of excursions. Package
prices will vary based on the number of ports on the itinerary. For
example, the package price for a cruise with seven ports is $699 per
person. As an added bonus, guests who purchase the Unlimited
Passport Collection also receive discounts on limited-availability
tours.
Exclusive Early Booking Window
Guests in suites and concierge-level staterooms enjoy a
60-day advance priority booking period. Travelers who purchase
either the Your World or Unlimited Passport collections also receive
priority confirmation of their selections. This added benefit is
especially appealing to those who wish to ensure they have a place
reserved on the most popular tours in marquee cities such as Venice,
Rome, St. Petersburg and Istanbul, to name a few. All excursion
packages have the added convenience of being fully refundable until
sail date and must be purchased in advance of sailing to enjoy the
maximum savings. Packages will be non-refundable thereafter. A la
Carte tours will remain fully refundable up until 36 hours before
the excursion.

more enhancements and updates to be announced. For reservations or

Princess Cruises Launches New Blog Chronicling Inspiring Reasons to
Cruise
SANTA CLARITA, CA, Jan 4: Following on the heels of its
award-winning blog (“50 Essential Experiences”), Princess Cruises
today launched a new blog called “Inspired to Cruise: A Year of
Reasons to Get Away From the Everyday” at
InspiredToCruise.com.
Throughout 2012, the blog will gradually reveal 52 passenger stories
about what compelled them to take a cruise vacation.
The blog will explore the myriad celebrations, accomplishments,
family milestones and other inspired reasons to cruise, and each
week another passenger will tell their story. The posts will
chronicle stories from a diverse group of contributors – from
long-time cruisers to those who set sail for the first time. Readers
will find that some events go as planned, while others do not, and
that many cruisers have found that unforgettable surprises make the
best stories of all.
“Our passengers regularly share deeply personal stories with us
about why they’ve cruised, and we wanted to share some of the most
remarkable ones,” said Jan Swartz, Princess Cruises executive vice
president. “With this new blog we’re giving our passengers the
starring role as storytellers, and we think their experiences will
inspire others to think about the many reasons to cruise.”
The first post, revealed today, is from Nancy Chamberlain-Fox of
Trabuco Canyon, California who tells the story of cruising to
celebrate the second time she and her husband were married…after a
span of not being together for 27 years. The love story takes an
unexpected turn when they discover that their multi-generational
dinner table mates each share the same anniversary date.
Also featured on the blog each week will be a short video called an
“Escape Inspiration.” These 30-second onboard moments will be
introduced by a Princess crew member who will explain why the scene
has meaning for them. The first video, introduced by Grand Princess
Captain Anthony Herriott, features the mesmerizing wake view off the
ship’s fantail.
